Smurfit Kappa Kraftliner: ROCS improves the efficiency of inventories management.
Roaming Object Coordination System (ROCSTM), based on Microsoft technology, is a modern solution for the positioning of inventories that improves the efficiency of raw material management in the forest industry. Smurfit Kappa, a leading producer of paper-based packaging, chose ROCSTM for its raw material inventory management at its Kraftliner plant in Piteå.
ROCSTM is a GPS-supported inventories positioning system with wireless real-time communication between trucks, weighing machines and central systems. It includes functions such as total transaction security, high positioning accuracy, automatic weighing, automatic positioning of unloading locations, guidance to selected cargo, collision warning between trucks, route review for later analysis, integration with the business administration system to generate invoicing details, etc.
“We wanted a system that could show exactly how much of each raw material we had in stock. We receive up-to-date digitalized reports on our raw material status from the ROCS system. It helps us to optimize the raw material inventory and to reduce tied-up capital,” says Stefan Persson, Raw Material Manager at Smurfit Kraftliner Piteå. “It is vital to our production process that we use raw materials of the right quality. Using ROCS, we can ensure that we are using the right raw material bales for each production batch.”
