Remote control of equipment
Surveillance, control and alarm management of machines.
FG Wilson Ltd, based in Northern Ireland, is currently one of the world's leading manufacturers of professional standby-power generators. FG Wilson products are used to generate electricity to critical applications in industry, medicine, telecommunications, etc. Such installations can often be geographically dispersed and sometimes difficult to access, such as telecommunication base stations. The company was on the look out for a simple solution for the surveillance, control and alarm management of its machines. The solution needed to be totally web-based and function throughout the world.
How it works
The solution is based on a Netbiter system which was custom-designed for FG Wilson. Netbiter hardware can automatically create a user interface depending on what type of generator has been connected. The connection is via Ethernet or GPRS to the Internet with automatic communication with a Netbiter Server. Here, users can log in to monitor and control their generators. As far as rental projects are concerned, it is possible to use satellite navigation and embedded map functions to establish the exact current position of each generator.
The solution has enabled FG Wilson's customers to rationalize their service and operations and thus function more cheaply. Their customers can make an immediate saving on travel costs and also plan service activities far more efficiently. Thus both time and money are saved.
In Sweden, this solution is used to monitor the standby power for Sweden's Internet backbone.
